7-Segment Display (hand-cranked, mostly 3D printed)

A nearly fully 3D-printed 7-segment display that is completely hand powered: turning a side gear drives a set of cams that slide the segments into position to show digits. The creator built it as a personal challenge after always finding 7-segment displays cool. Printing (from the creator): only the special middle segment, the one with a notch in its bottom, needs supports; no other part does. Material, layer height and infill are not specified on the source listing. Hardware and assembly (summarised from the creator's steps; the included PDF has the illustrated steps): slot the special middle segment into the plate, then slide the other segments through the plate slots; hold the segments in tension against the centre of their rotation points with 2 rubber bands (the centre segment is pushed by the lower band the opposite way to the others); fit the shafts with M3 button-head screws, not too tight so they still spin freely; slide the cams onto the shafts in order (top shaft A, B, G, F; bottom shaft spacer, C, D, E) with each cam's arrow pointing at its segment and all set to the 0 position; mesh the gears, making sure both shafts are at the same angle; fit the shell and then the front panel. If it spins badly, check the cam orientation and the direction you turn the gear, and lubricate the cams if needed. Included files (46): 22 part STLs (main frame is the primary model file), 22 matching STEP parts, the full assembly as STEP (assemblyv7.step), and the creator's illustrated description PDF.
